FIFA World Cup 2014

The FIFA World Cup 2014 will be held in Brazil. This was finalized during FIFA Congress 2008.

Five times world cup soccer champion Brazil is lucky to host the World Cup event for a second time. It hosted the event earlier in 1950.

When FIFA Congress nominated South America to host FIFA World Cup 2014, all nine football federation countries of South America backed Brazil to be the host nation. There were some doubts when Brazil President expressed inability to host the grand event due to lack of world class stadia that can host the event.

Putting end to all confusion World Cup returns to the land of Pele. The last time a South American nation hosted was in 1978 by Argentina.

Although there were many speculations with regards to the logistics and infrastructure to support an event of that magnitude and also about the conditions that could pose difficulty to European playing sides as regards climate, the football loving nation has started its efforts of gearing up for the big event and looking forward to prove to the rest of the world that it is capable of hosting the event.

From a list of 17 cities, 12 cities were confirmed to host the world cup matches in Brazil. These cities include: Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Cuiabá, Manaus, Curitiba, Natal, Salvador and Recife.

Arsenal cuts overall debt by almost 40 percent

Arsenal has cut its debt by almost 40 percent to 203.6 million pounds ($311. 6 million), maintaining its reputation as one of the more stable clubs in the Premier League.
Buoyed by the sale of another 261 apartments in the Highbury Square property development on the site of its former stadium, the north London club made a pretax profit of 35.2 million pounds ($53.8 million) for the six months ending Nov. 30.
It cut its debt from 332.8 million pounds ($537.5 million) the previous May.
The club has now sold 524 of the 655 Highbury Square apartments and non-executive chairman Peter Hill-Wood said Friday “the next couple of years will see our property activities delivering surplus cash.”

“I would not want to speculate on the exact quantum or timing of this,” Hill-Wood said. “How we will use this surplus remains undecided but, in addition to investing in the team, I think we will examine investment in club projects and infrastructure both in and around Emirates Stadium.”

Manager Arsene Wenger has so far refrained for the most part from spending big money on high-profile players, but the availability of cash could give his club an edge in the market over top-four Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.

Basketball Global World Series

Commissioner of the United States Major World Series Bud Selig has made a new proposal- to hold a global match series between US Clubs and the Japanese clubs.

Bud Selig will be retiring in 2012, and he has stated that the proposal is rather a real issue rather than just a dream.

And the Nippon Professional Baseball commissioner Ryozo Kato disclosed to the media that the proposal was made to him when the two met in Milwaukee. Selig has emphasised the need of the World Series, which is not only vital for the US and Japan baseball but it is also important for the rest of the world.

MLB has been organizing the so called World Series since 1903, which were primarily between the American League clubs and the national League clubs, but eventually the sport started reaching to countries in Latin America, the Caribbean and also across the Asia-Pacific regions.

Since 1950 the Central and Pacific League champions were contested between the Japan series.

Japan has been the defending champion of the World Baseball Classic twice. With Bud Selig as the commissioner for MLB for another couple of years the Global World Series can well become a reality but not before there is an agreement made between the union and the management of US clubs and their Japanese counterparts.
